500 pages on the differences between Depressing as Fuck and Depressing Ass Fuck
This wiki is intended to house more detailed explanations of the tags used on the Dynasty Reader
The goal is to provide a repository of definitions for tags so that:
For more specific tagging policy, view our General Tagging Policy
Many of the terms that have been co-opted by fandom over the years are defined here for use within our ecosystem.
There are several segments of anime/manga fandom that have vastly specific and different definitions for these terms than what we would use.
e.g. Some think that Yuri / Yaoi explicitly mean sexual content, or GL (Girls' Love) or Shoujo-ai has been conflated with being about pedophilia
Whether or not you agree with these views, that is how some people do interpret things.
You may have different ideas of what a term should mean as well than what they or what we describe.
However, for the Reader itself, our goal is to utilize as broad of a definition as we can that we deem sufficiently accurate.
e.g. We view Yuri / Yaoi as very broad terms, which include not just romantic relationships, but also platonic, adversarial, familial or other intense emotional relationships.
One could say we are trying to remove as much subjectivity as possible the broader we make a term.
All that being said, we are still human beings interpreting a piece of art and trying to give it definition by trying to categorize it. There's no way to not put some of your own self or beliefs into your decision when doing that and sometimes that can conflate with the experiences other people may or may not have had and directly relate to as well. Subjectivity will never fully disappear from tagging and that's okay! Debate and disagreement can be useful to re-evaluate things, perhaps even after a decent amount of time as viewpoints change. At the end of the day though, the definitions have to be something the site administration have to be happy with presenting as reasonably accurate, no matter how broad.
